Fill your days with what you love

The difference between living an inspired life and an uninspired one comes down to one simple point as this story demonstrates…

I asked Mary, a patient of mine, to tell me a little bit about herself. Mary was a housewife, in her 40’s, and looked tired and frustrated. “Well, I love to garden,” she said. If you were sitting next to me, you would have noticed her face and especially her eyes come completely alive when she talked about gardening. Clearly she loved it. I only wish she could see the difference it made. Where are the mirrors when you need one? I was curious so I asked; “What are you planting these days Mary?” to which she answered: ‘Oh boy, come to think of it, I can’t remember the last time I planted anything at all”. Most people, like Mary are uninspired and unfulfilled because they don’t fill their lives with what’s valuable to them. It’s so simple but so true.

Robin Sharma author of the Monk who sold his Ferrari said it well; ‘People are unhappy because they don’t fill their lives with what makes them happy.’

On Mary’s next visit her eyes gleamed with inspiration and many of her health issues vanished completely. ‘Clearly you’ve been gardening, haven’t you?’ I asked, already knowing the answer. She nodded with a huge smile and with a sparkle in her eye. The truth is, many of you know what you love doing, but you simply don’t take the time to fill your days, with what you love to do. You need to ask yourself; what do you love to do more than anything else? Are you doing it frequently enough?

If you continue to push aside what’s precious to you, consider what this cost you, in terms of health, vitality and finances. Take it from a health professional. For over a decade I have witnessed the amazing healing power that doing what you love can have, when you actually do it. When you’re inspired and fulfilled as an individual not only are you generally healthier but you have more to bring, more to offer to your relationships. When you are inspired and fulfilled your life across virtually all categories becomes richer. So, the difference between living an inspired life and an uninspired one comes down to this one simple point; Get back in the garden. Make your garden your life and your life your garden. Hope to see you in your garden today.
